Woman Owned Garbage Company In Broadview Illinois

Humble Beginnings

Karen Coley and her business partners started SBC Waste Solutions in 2018 and have since grown their business from four garbage trucks to forty-five trucks. As a woman-owned business in a labor-intensive industry, SBC has always had the mission of giving back to the community, supporting women in business, and empowering essential workers.

At SBC, we love each and every one of the communities we serve. Sponsoring youth sports, regional events, and local charities are some of the ways in which we give back. We also honor a resident and a senior resident each month as part of our Resident of the Month campaign to show our appreciation for the residents we service and the invaluable role they play in the neighborhoods. Another way we show our support is through our commitment to sustainability.  SBC was one of nine companies in Broadview that signed a letter of intent to become solar powered by the end of 2023.

We are proud to be certified by the Women’s Business Enterprise National Council. This certification means women have a majority role in owning, operating, controlling, and managing SBC. Although the waste industry is usually considered a male-centric industry, we see our status as a woman-owned business as an asset. SBC believes in women supporting women, and we have had the opportunity to work with many inspiring women leaders in the Chicago community.

Karen and her partners have worked in a variety of different industries for decades, and they understand firsthand how important essential workers are. We see how hard our drivers work each and every day and the impact that hard work has in ensuring the Winfield, Bridgeview, Bloomingdale, and Indian Head Park communities remain clean and safe. We aim to maintain a work culture that is supportive and appreciative. From a lounge stocked with our drivers’ favorite snacks and beverages to a steak feast on Father’s Day, we are always looking for ways to show our team how grateful we are for their dedication and commitment.

The Future

Moving forward, we plan on finding creative new ways to improve our sustainability efforts, continue to empower our drivers and showcase the essential role they play in their communities, and support women in business and in leadership.
