Lake Opeka
Lake Opeka is a charming 76-acre park where residents can enjoy fishing, sailing, and boating close to home. Administrated by the Des Plaines Park District, this area also features a public golf course, picnic shelters, and a playground.
The park also houses a marina, which is home to the Des Plaines Yacht Club which hosts multiple regattas throughout the summer. In addition, jogging paths, open green spaces, native plantings, and a sensory garden provide additional recreational activities.

Lake Park Golf Course
Designed for the beginner golfer or those looking to work on their short game, Lake Park Golf Course is a fun place to practice. Holes range from 50 to 115 yards, and the picturesque lake that doubles as a water hazard provides ample challenge.
This public golf course is open to golfers of all ages and skill levels but is particularly popular among seniors and beginners. You can also book a tee time online, though the course is closed during bad weather.
Lake Park boasts a driving range and an 18-hole par-3 golf course, as well as a practice green and a fee-based short game area. The driving range has 80 bays, which you can access with a stored-payment card and pay for at the front desk; it costs different amounts depending on your choice of bay. Picnic Shelters
There is a picnic area in the park which offers plenty of space for you to enjoy your picnic. There are also several tables which you can use for your family and friends to eat at.
There are two picnic shelters in Lake Park, one located south of the Memorial Pavilion and another north of the Pavilion. Both can be reserved by calling the Park District. Rentals take precedence over walk-in use.
Small dogs are welcome to Lake Park as long as they are on a leash. There is a large playground and tons of open areas for you and your dog to enjoy. You can even join the Chicago Small Dog Meetup group if you want to socialize with other responsible pet owners.
Boat Rentals
For a fun-filled afternoon on the water, rent a paddle boat. The fleet includes one ADA-compliant boat that seats 4. Boat rentals close 1 hour before dusk.
The popular Lake Park marina provides wet and dry moorings for local boat owners. The Park District also sponsors a Labor Day regatta and sailing lessons are available each summer for beginner and intermediate sailors.

Volleyball Courts
A walking path, golf course, fishing pier, paddleboat rentals, and volleyball courts can all be found at this 76-acre park. It also has picnic shelters and a playground for the kids. You can even listen to a live concert in the summertime!
The Prairie Lakes Aquatic Center is a new addition to this park. It features a 3 1/2- to 4-foot depth warm water wellness pool with three lap lanes, a timing/scoreboard system, and 150 spectator retractable bleachers. It’s also home to the Des Plaines Warriors championship swim team for year-round training and competition.
