Exhibits

Kids learn through play and get hands-on in this unique learning environment that encourages curiosity, creativity, thinking, and problem-solving. With 17,000 square feet of exhibit space, there is something for everyone at DCM.

My kids loved building with blocks and arranging them to create tracks for balls in the Make It Move section that explores energy and basic physics concepts. They also love exploring how numbers represent quantity and putting Tetris-shaped soft blocks in the spots to see what fits in them in the Math Connections exhibit.

They can explore light, shadows, and colors in the Creativity Connections exhibit as well. The Young Explorers section is made with the youngest visitors in mind. After burning some calories, they can refuel at the onsite SMART Cafe which offers healthy options.

Activities

The Museum’s exhibits and programs spark curiosity, inspire creativity, and encourage learning. They develop curiosity, thinking, and problem-solving through hands-on exploration of art, math, science, and more.

Kids can make a splash in AWESome Water, build with real tools in Construction House, and let their imaginations run wild at Story Time. There are also tons of activities for infants and toddlers in three Young Explorer areas including Creativity Connections with a Calder fish that hangs dangling objects, pyramid benches, and tunnels that allow kids to explore color, light, and shadow.

Kids can learn with their parents during Family Weekends and during special events like Bubble Bash, a family-friendly New Year’s Eve featuring a countdown with confetti, bubbles, party rockets, and other exciting activities. Families can also enjoy UNLIMITED Museum playtime with a membership. Learn more about Des Plaines here.
